SB562 – Second Chance Act – passed the Senate unanimously in May. Speaker Moore is holding it up in the House. It’s our last chance to have it heard! Can you help us? Read more about Second Chance Act below…
The Second Chance Act will improve the expungement process for offenders, including juveniles, with non-violent and low level felonies and misdemeanors. According to a recent poll by Public Opinion Strategies:
89% of North Carolinians agree with automatically removing criminal records when a case is dismissed, or the person is found not guilty.
86% of North Carolinians agree with automatically removing nonviolent misdemeanor convictions if the person has remained crime free for at least 7 years; 81% agree with removal after a person has remained crime free for at least 5 years.
After passing the Senate unanimously, Speaker Moore has refused to bring it to a vote in the House. This week is the last chance.
