The Second Chance Act will improve the expungement process for offenders, including juveniles, with non-violent and low level felonies and misdemeanors. According to a recent poll by Public Opinion Strategies:

89% of North Carolinians agree with automatically removing criminal records when a case is dismissed, or the person is found not guilty.

86% of North Carolinians agree with automatically removing nonviolent misdemeanor convictions if the person has remained crime free for at least 7 years; 81% agree with removal after a person has remained crime free for at least 5 years.

After passing the Senate unanimously, Speaker Moore has refused to bring it to a vote in the House. This week is the last chance.
