When low level offenders are released from prison, they are expected to reintegrate into society, get a job, and a place to live.
The problem is a criminal record makes all of these things even more difficult. Currently in the state of Michigan, expungement is very expensive and bureaucratic. It’s full of government red tape!
SB4980-4985 (sponsored in the House by conservative Republican Graham Filler) can change that! These bills would allow for automatic expungements for low level, non-violent offenders after a certain amount of time if the individual has met all requirements.
