Support the North Carolina Second Chance Act

North Carolina Second Chances

North Carolina courts dole out nearly 100,000 convictions each year.

While offenders should be held accountable for their crimes, our justice system makes it nearly impossible for ex-offenders to put their mistakes behind them and find a good job. Today, making a bad decision and having a conviction on your record is like an economic death penalty. Without a job, people wind up back in jail and taxpayers are stuck footing the bill. It’s no wonder that the justice system fails more than half the time.

The people of North Carolina deserve better.

The Second Chance Act will allow non-violent offenders to have their criminal record sealed if they have cleaned up their act and stayed on the straight and narrow. This will ensure that anyone who wants to better their life, get a job, and contribute to our state’s economy has the chance for a fresh start.

But none of that will happen unless the bill makes it through the NC legislature.

Write and call your legislator TODAY and urge them to support North Carolina’s Second Chance Act.

My name is [insert full name], and I am calling to urge Rep. [Insert Rep’s Last Name] to support the Second Chance Act.

America is supposed to be a land of second chances, but for people with criminal records, that second chance isn’t easy to come by.

After doing their time, many nonviolent offenders can’t get jobs or housing and wind up right back in prison. What’s more, North Carolina taxpayers are stuck footing the bill.

We can do better.

The Second Chance Act will ensure that anyone who wants to better their life, get a job, and contribute to our state’s economy has the chance for a fresh start.

As a constituent, I am asking you to support this important bill. It will make our communities safer, reduce recidivism, and save taxpayers a ton.

Thank you for your time.
