The next woman we want to introduce you to fights against the unjust treatment of women in our criminal justice system. (You may even recognize her from previous emails, we’re proud to call her one of our own.)
Through her ongoing work with the American Conservative Union Foundation’s Dignity for Incarcerated Women Campaign, Kaitlin Owens sheds light on the unique injustices facing incarcerated women in America.
She calls attention to harrowing practices like shackling pregnant incarcerees to their hospital beds while in labor – a policy that is still tolerated in 28 states – and neglecting necessary care for pregnant women and their unborn babies.
In addition to advocating for incarcerated women’s rights, she works to bring attention to unjust prison conditions, offenders’ transition after release, and ways to reduce recidivism rates.
Kaitlin is committed to making sure all Americans are treated with fairness and dignity, even those in our prisons.
